What is CBD?
Cannabidiol, commonly referred to as CBD, is one of the main phytocannabinoids produced by the hemp plant. It is a non-psychoactive, oily/resinous compound that is naturally found in specialized glands on young leaves, stalks and in the flowering buds of the hemp plant.
Hemp History & Other Uses?
Hemp has been grown and cultivated for thousands of years across the world for a variety of industrial and medical uses. In fact, our early US founding fathers, including George Washington, grew hemp during our colonial period for sailcloths, ropes and paper. Until the hemp regulation of the 1930’s, even US pharmaceutical companies were using extracts of hemp & marijuana to provide pain relief, sedation and act as an antispasmodic.
How is HEMP different than Marijuana?
Hemp is NOT marijuana, although they come from the same plant species, cannabis sativa. Both marijuana & hemp have phytocannabinoid molecules such as the psychoactive, tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and non-psychoactive cannabidiol (CBD). Per federal laws, hemp must have less than 0.3% THC (2014 Farm Bill), whereas marijuana is known to have high concentrations of THC in its flowering buds. Both phytocannabinoids can interact with your body in amazing ways (because our body already produces endocannabinoids), however, currently THC is illegal at a federal level.
How is CBD different than THC?
CBD does not give users the same “high” that THC does. Thus, there is none of the “heady” fog or dysphoria that many people experience when using THC. Both compounds are found in their respective plants, however, CBD is found to be present in much greater %s within hemp plants.
Is CBD Legal to consume?
Constantly evolving in its legality, CBD has recently been approved by Congress for cultivation & research (Agricultural Improvement Act / 2018 Hemp Farming Act). Soon it will be signed into law by the President, howeve r, because CBD is a plant cannabinoid and labeled as a Schedule I drug in the US, technically it is forbidden in any form. Despite its amazing health benefits, lack of addictive potential, and although CBD is not psychoactive, it is still illegal in the eyes of the federal government (for the moment & subject to legislative change).
How does CBD affect me/my body?
CBD interacts with your body’s existing internal regulator, also known as your endocannabinoid system (ECS), to promote healthy homeostasis (think Goldilocks and the three bears...making conditions “just right”). Your body already creates endocannabinoids naturally within your cells and because of this, phytocannabinoids like CBD can readily bind to our existing receptors. Basically, CBD attaches itself to our cells and then regulates the signals that are sent/received (creating physiological and psychological responses).
What is the Endocannabinoid System (ECS)?
Our ECS is what regulates much of our internal balance, including our immune system, memory, appetite, sleep pattern, mood, pain sensations, inflammation & anxiety. The ECS has three key elements: cannabinoid receptors (such as CB1 & CB2 receptors, which are found in our brain, spinal cord, and white blood cells), endocannabinoids (such as 2-AG & anandamide, which are produced on demand and then bind to the receptors to modulate the release of neurotransmitters), and metabolic enzymes which break down the endocannabinoids once they’re used.
Does CBD make me "High"?
NO, as CBD does not bind well to CB1 receptors found in our brain and central nervous system receptors the way THC does, it does not induce the release of serotonin and dopamine (feelings of euphoria). Instead, CBD binds more readily to CB2 receptors found in our immune cells, promoting more antioxidant and anti-inflammatory benefit to the immune system.
What Spcific considition/airlments can CBD assist with?
Although we cannot directly make statements regarding the positive effects of CBD on our body/mind (because CBD has not been historically validated by the FDA...until most recently in June 2018), CBD has been studied and found to exert anti-inflammatory, analgesic (pain modulating), anti-nausea, antipsychotic/anxiolytic (anxiety), antiepileptic and other actions that may offer significant human health benefits. Certain whole-body conditions like cancer, chronic pain, arthritis, chronic inflammation, Multiple Sclerosis, HIV/AIDS, Lupus, Fibromyalgia, Crohn's disease, Parkinson’s, PTSD, depression/anxiety, gastrointestinal issues, nausea and much more may be positively affected.
Are certain CBD products better than others?
YES, like any other product there are always better brands using more quality ingredients. The best CBD in the world comes from industrial hemp that is domestically grown here in the US, using best practices for cultivation and ensuing extraction. Our company uses only the highest-quality, whole-plant industrial-hemp-derived CBD in all our product lines.
How Do I take CBD?
You can take CBD in many ways, depending on the form of the CBD product. Many people ingest (eat or drink) CBD oil through edibles (like gummies or chocolates), dropping a tinctured solution under the tongue (sublingual dosing) or a CBD beverage such as a syrup or water. People will also smoke hemp flower and enjoy vaporizers for a more immediate effect. Lastly, there are a variety of topical (over the skin surface) products such as lotions, bath bombs, lip balms and aloe vera creams.
How do I know which CBD products are best?
The best CBD products are made from industrial hemp and also the ones reviewed by independent, third party organizations (tested for purity and peer reviewed). We always test our products for quality and accurate dosing. Can I overdoes on CBD?
NO, there have been no reported overdoses on CBD, nor can you die from taking too much CBD. The most common complaint is that people may notice mild dysphoria or feelings of sedation at high mg doses (over 500 mgs per day).
